Boldface is a Community Interest Company I set up with my cousin – Izzy Yon. She is an artist and I’m a radio producer, and we’ve both been working with young people since we were teenagers ourselves. So we set up Boldface – a multi-media production company that works with young people to produce audio, art and film.
We design and deliver workshops for young people – from Primary School up to the age of 25 – collaborating with organisations such as HearSay Festival, Youth Music, The Brixton Project, Salford Community Leisure, The Empathy Museum and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair.
Over lockdown, we worked with young people from Lambeth to co-produce a series of walks showcasing their memories of Brixton. This was in partnership with The Brixton Project and The Empathy Museum, you can listen to the series here:
This year we also launched the Young London Print Prize in collaboration with Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. This new Prize champions the ability of young people to engage in their own personal artistic practice. It bridges the gap between compulsory education and the contemporary art world by directly involving young artists and printmakers within it. In November 2020 we launched The Higher Frequency. We trained 18-25 year olds in presenting, reporting and producing, resulting in a 6 part series on music in the UK. This project was in partnership with Youth Music, led by Femi Oriogun-Williams.
